Can I use one of your images for my website/blog or project?
No.
Are images on your site which do not have an explicit copyright notice in the public domain?
No.
But copyright laws… blah blah?
No. Please read: Myths about copyright and Wikipedia article about copyright.
But I saw your art somewhere else?
No. They either had explicit written permission to use one of my images or (more likely) they are using my art withouth my permission. You can report copyright violations to: copyright [at] samimatilainen [dot] com
Could you upload or send me a high-res version or RAW-file of one of your paintings/drawings/photos?
No.
Could you design a logo/image/title for me?
No.
Would you like to participate in an art collaboration?
No.
I’m prepared to pay for a print/high-res photo/source code?
No. Are you rich? If not, please don’t waste my time.
I want to learn how to draw/paint. Could you teach me?
No. Use Google, search for drawing or painting tutorials, read and practice practice practice. Join an art forum and post your work for critique. Learn from the feedback, rinse and repeat.
Could you help me with my programming/OpenGL project/homework?
No. If you need help with graphics programming and OpenGL I suggest you read “the Red Book” (earlier versions are available online for free). I also recommend Edward Angels (2006), Interactive Computer Graphics: A Top-Down Approach Using OpenGL, ISBN: 0-321-31252-X.
Could you send me the source code to your particle engine?
No.
Hi Sam, Wow. RE: Your FAQ. You certainly are not user friendly! Who took your toys away as a child? Just kidding. Great piece, Medusa. But, seriously… geesh. You might consider making some affordable prints. Seems there’s a demand. Why not make some people happy and make some money in the process? I’d buy a print if you were selling and add to my collection of Waterhouse Goddess prints.
You wouldn’t believe the amount of wierd requests I get in my email and the amount of shit I see people using my artwork for withouth my consent. Such is the internet. Sure there are some very flattering and humble requests as well, and I do taje every meil into consideration and try to reply to everyone who is at least polite, but I find that the ratio for good vs bad is about 1:10 and so I try to limit the shit to a minimum by saying No to pretty much everything (with few exceptions).
